History of RC Electric Planes
Before Electric RC planes became a novel activity for the light and serious hobbyists, their concept and application is traced from a highly military background. Electric RC planes are still used for covert operations and autopilot airplanes are mostly radio-guided.
Electric RC planes were pre-dated by the radio controlled blimps in the 19 th century. These aircrafts are filled with hydrogen air as they are driven by spurt signals first used in musical acts in theaters. It is roughly eleven years after the Wright brothers recorded the first flight that the Royal Aircraft Establishment in England built and tested a monoplane named the Larynx.
In the 1930’s, England came up with the Queen Bee, which is a modified target aircraft used for the military. Since then, a bunch of top Electric RC planes of various models have been used for military purposes. These planes reduced casualties carried out by intelligence operations. Still, more compact and lightweight designs allowed the price of these planes to drop, eventually allowing hobbyists to fly plane themselves. As the cycle of smaller Electric RC planes continued, the base of hobbyists grew.
As a hobby, Electric RC planes grew out from home made models that were sculpted and constructed in a long process. The lack of customizable parts limited the designer’s flexibility. As they say, it was just simple back then. Since electric RC models do not have to follow a standard, each plane is truly unique.
The successfully made planes were then studied further and reproduced as RC plane assemblies and kits. This way, everyone can come in and fly the electric RC aircrafts after following careful instructions. These kits paved way for parts to be interchangeable from the engines, to the wheels, and the propellers. This increase in choices helped Electric RC planes gain mainstream hobbyists. And with new popularity came choices which can make finding the right Electric RC planes increasingly harder.
Most Electric RC planes today are sold as ready to fly planes, while some are sold as almost ready to fly planes. As Electric RC planes gain more appeal, anyone can be as involved in this hobby. Gone are the days when you must build your own plane. You still can of course but getting started is much easier today.
Electric RC planes have gained enthusiasts who are just as excited to see planes fly now as they flew before. Through the years, the charm of flying has not been lost.
